Current Statistics on Abortion

46,023,191
Total Reported Mechanical Abortions since 1973

"A single death is a tragedy, a million deaths is a statistic." — Joseph Stalin
Is this figure just a statistic to you, or is it a tragedy millions of times over?

In the year 2000, there were 3,600 abortions per day; that is ONE reported mechanical abortion every 24 seconds in the United States!

The problem with under-reporting and non-reporting:
Although 44+ million abortions seems like a lot, it is a fraction of the real number of abortions that occur in our country.
Mechanical vs. chemical vs. induced pre-term labor:
The 44+ million figure does NOT include chemical abortions (RU-486, Methotrexate), nor does it include abortion by induction of labor. A modest estimation gives 15 million abortions having had been performed by these two manners.

Under reporting:
It is estimated that there is a 25 - 50% under-reporting rate at women's "health" clinics. Assuming only a 25% under-reporting average rate nationwide would give an additional 17 million abortions having had been performed in the United States.

Morning After Pill:
The usage of Birth Control for emergency purposes is not a new phenomenon. We cannot be sure how many women who use the MAP are actually pregnant when the MAP is consumed. A conservative estimate of 10% would take into account cyclical considerations and likelihood of fertilization. An estimated 10 million abortions [or more!] may have been performed in this manner.

Taking all of these factors into account; at least 87 million intentional abortions have been performed in the United States, or at least one every 12 seconds!

In the year 2000: 24% of all pregnancies were ended by abortion! Only 7% of women reported rape, incest, or health concerns as a reason for having an abortion.Almost half of all abortions are performed on women who have had at least one abortion.
