The Holy Spirit: the proper focus
A proper understanding of who the Holy Spirit is and what He does is essential for the Christian. Many practically regard Him as an "it" or a "force" when He is a person, He is God. Many believe that He indeed is a person of the GodHead, but rarely discuss Him, except in regards only to Him being one that the Father sends to accomplish His work. So again, His Person, His Power, and His Work are lost in our minds by negligence or ignorance. Other Christians, however have placed the Holy Spirit at the center of conversation, almost to the exclusion of Jesus or the Father. The doctrine and beliefs then are centered around the Holy Spirit's gifts to believers. The demonstration of these gifts become as important to salvation as the confession of faith in Christ Jesus.

The Holy Spirit testifies about Jesus:
But it is the Spirit's will to tell the world about Jesus Christ. It is also the Spirit’s Will that no single doctrinal principle be important enough to displace the Lord Jesus Christ Himself as the one name that alone should dominate His Church. No doctrine, no theology, no discussion is more important than the Lord Jesus. If our beliefs on end-times events, security in salvation, or gifts of the Spirit have become more dear to us than Jesus Himself, we are then not following the will and leading of the Spirit. The Spirit testifies about Jesus [John 15:26].
A.W. Tozer said, “We will never understand the Holy Spirit so long as we terminate our thought upon Him. The Scriptures always lead us on beyond every subjective experience to the person of the Lord Jesus Christ Himself.”

To achieve a balanced perspective of the Holy Spirit, we must first of all understand who He is--for He is God Almighty. We must understand His work--which is to testify of Jesus and convict the world of sin, righteousness, and judgement. And we must understand His gifts--

The true gifts of the Holy Spirit:
Companionship
Comfort
Counsel/Guidance
Correct Teaching--Truth
The Knowledge that we are children of God
Competency
Freedom
Growing into the likeness of the Lord
