Questions about the Young Earth?

Question about the Young Earth:

1) You say that Genesis is literally true and a day really means 24 hours. Okay, but Genesis also says that when Adam eats the forbidden frut he will die. There's various translations but it seems pretty clear that Adam would die when he eats the fruit, not years later. Seems to me that this blows a literal Genesis out of the water. What do you think?

Answer from EadsHome Ministries:

Do you suppose that God wasn't referring to physical death, but spiritual death? The very second that Adam ate that fruit, he died spiritually. He became dead in sins and trespasses [Ephesians 2:1].
The gospel message is this: "But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions--it is by grace you have been saved." [Ephesians 2:4-5] Obviously, after the fact we can see that God did not mean physical death, because Adam and Eve did not physically die for hundreds of years later. But their spiritual death was immediate and obvious to them and God [they hid, clothed themselves, God came and judged them and removed them from the garden]. The finding that God meant spiritual death instead of physical death does not make Genesis completely figurative to the point that we can make any word mean anything we want. We cannot now say, "Well, God meant spiritual death, not physical death, so He must have meant billions of years, not one day!" That has a very deep logical fallacy. This fallacy becomes even more apparent when you look at the mountain of evidence pointing to "day" meaning 24 hours [please refer to our online lessons on creationism].
There is only one reason to try to make "day" into billions of years, and that is to make time for evolution to occur. But God did not use evolutionary processes, nor did he create in billions of years. And the finding that God meant spiritual death instead of physical death does not require us to negate all of the evidence pointing to a scriptural young earth.
