The Three Times God wrote with His hand
In Exodus 31:18, God gave Moses the Law, the Ten Commandments. These Laws were "inscribed by the finger of God."
In Daniel 5:5 "fingers of a human hand appeared and wrote on the plaster of the wall". This handwriting was in Judgement of Belshazzar, who had defied God and His Laws.
In John 8:6, "Jesus bent down and started to write on the ground with His finger." Though we do not know what He wrote, we do know that Jesus extended Mercy to an adulterous woman. This is not to say that He set aside the Law, but as the Supreme Judge, He is able to deliver a righteous judgement. Jesus showed the woman mercy.
In this brief lesson we can see the Good News! God gave His Law to mankind. Those who did not have the written Law on tablets certainly had the law written on their consciences [Romans 2:14-15], so mankind knows what is right and what is wrong. But man disobeyed God's Law. And a Just God must execute Judgement against the offender. Jesus Himself became sin for us, taking the judgement of the Father upon Himself, so that He could extend Mercy to us all.
Praise the Lord for His Mercy and lovingkindness!
"Yet to all who received Him, to those who believed in His name,
He gave
the right to become children of God." [John 1:12
