How to answer a Mormon
>>Latter-Day Saints please

God's image
God made all men and women in His image. This being so, every
human is worthy of respect, compassion, and love. For this very reason, we
try to respectfully, calmly, and lovingly teach those who are in error. Many
people become offended when presented with the idea that their dear beliefs
may in fact be wrong. The Bible says in John 4 that God is Spirit and those
that would worship Him must do so in Spirit and in truth. Therefore, God
desires that we not attempt to worship Him without TRUE knowledge of Him.
In fact, if you do not know the basic facts about someone, it is very hard
to have a relationship with them. So when we consider how to answer a Mormon,
it is important to stress that fact. Let me give you an example. Let's say
I were to say to you, "I love my wife and have a very strong marriage
relationship with her!" Then you said, "Oh! that's wonderful, what
does she look like?"
Then I said, "Well, she is about 450 pounds, 4 foot 10 inches with blonde
hair and green eyes." Now in reality my wife looks
nothing like that. If I were then to say that she was an orphan, that would
be even more confusing, because you can see her family in this picture.
That is exactly the situation we have here with Mormons. They claim to know
and worship a god that was created by other gods and who sat in a grand council
to determine the fate of the worlds. This "god" is thus called "Elohim" Click
here to read a section from their founding prophet Joseph Smith as found
in "Times and Seasons".
The God of the Bible:
The problem with this teaching is that it contradicts the teaching
of the Bible. Isaiah 43:10 and 44:6 clearly tell us that there are no other
gods beside God and that there will never be any other gods beside Him. He
alone gets the glory!!!
Isaiah 43:10-11; "Before me no god was formed, nor will
there be one after me.."
Isaiah 44:6; "I am the
first and I am the last; apart from me there is no God."
Isaiah 42:8; "I am the LORD; that is my name! I will not give my glory to another!"
So we see that Mormons are describing someone totally different
from the God of the Bible:
The God of the Bible: The only God that ever existed. He is uncreated
The God of Mormons: Elohim is one of many gods
who himself was created and not from eternity past
So if Mormons are describing a god that is not the God of the Bible, then who is this "god"??? I will leave that up to your own conclusions, but as we can see, this is not the god we should follow.
The Burning Bosom:
Many Mormons, when pressed with this truth will revert to saying
that they are merely here to testify to the "truth" and then might
invite you to pray for a burning in the bosom to corroborate the fact that
Joseph
Smith is God's prophet. But the Bible even has something to say about that!
This is not the test that God has given us to determine if someone is a false
prophet or a true prophet. Even if the burning in the bosom happens, God
is testing you to see if you will be true to Him, read below:
"If a prophet, or one who foretells by dreams, appears among
you and announces to you a miraculous sign or wonder, and if the
sign or wonder of which he has spoken takes place, and he says, "Let
us follow other gods" [gods you have not known] "and let us worship them" you
must not listen to the words of that prophet or dreamer. The LORD your God is testing you
to find out whether you love Him with all your heart and with all your soul.
It is the LORD your God you must follow..."
Deuteronomy 13:1-4
